Rashidi Yekini It's no longer news that Nigeria's one-time goal machine, Rashidi Yekini died of an alleged prolong mental disorder yesterday May 24, 2012, as given by a close family source. |
However Gistclan gathered that very close colleagues who are very busy shedding crocodile tears shortly after his death, actually abandoned him at the time he needed them most.
'Expect a flood of lies, dressed up as tributes to Rashidi Yekini. Stuff like, "he died when this country needs him most" and "he has left a vacuum too big to be filled" will come from thos who didn't give a shit about him". said a critiq.
Confirming Yekini's death, former colleague, Ike Shorunmu, said he was informed by the mother of one of Yekini's children that the energetic striker was dead.''It's so sad but the truth of the matter is that our dear Rashidi Yekini is dead,''Shorunmu lamented. ''He died in a private hospital in Ibadan,'' he said.''The woman who had a daughter for Yekini told me this sad news and told me that he would be buried today in Ira, Kwara State,'' said Shorunmu.
Before his resignation from football, he was Nigeria’s national record goal scorer, netting 37 goals in 58 appearances. He represented Nigeria at the 1984, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994 Africa Nations Cup finals. He also represented Nigeria at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.Yekini played for Nigeria at the USA'94 and France '98 World Cups finals. In 1993, he was crowned African Footballer Of The Year; the first time a Nigerian would be so honoured.
His death goes a long way to show how the Nigerian community and it's government tend to abandon their disadvantaged heroes to die in penury, recalling the case of Gringory and many others to heart.
Since Yekini's death, more and more tributes have not stopped pouring in, some of which have been categorised, crocodile tears.
