ASSAULTED BEAT FM STAFF, DEWUNMI ONEKANMI FINALY SACKED

Adewunmi

Olisa
Recall the ugly incident that occurred on Thusday September 8, 2011 between head of prgramms, Olisa Adibu and News editor, Adewunmi Oyyekanmi, where the later was badly brutalized by the former.
Well, eight month after the unfortunate incident which was believed to have been mishandled by the management of Beat Fm, dewunmi, the news editor was finally sacked last week, Friday, may 11, 2012 for another reason rated to stealing.
According to the story, Adewunmi allegedly stole the meal of a Naija FM employee (a jollof rice) and the incident which caused a heated aguement between the two, saw Dewunmi being sacked by the management. However, while Adewunmi maintained innocence, he was proved wrng by the CCTV camera which recorded the incident, stated an inside report.
While many are of the opinion that Dewunmi was actually victimized and framed up, some staffers of the company maintained that he was only unfortunate to have been the one caught. ‘Management had been trying to stop the issue of stealing. That’s part of the reason they installed CCTV everywhere, and encouraged all staff to report cases of missing items, so these can be tracked using the CCTV recordings. It’s just unfortunate that he’s the one that was caught. If it had been anyone else, the same fate would have befallen that person’.
The management of the radio station are as at press time running away from making any official statement on the matter, when contacted. But stay tunned, because the drama has just begun and we promise to keep you posted.

INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY TARRIFF, THE WAY FORWARD?

The 36 state governors have given their backing to the Nigerian Energy Regulatory Commission to increase electricity tariff. This decision was taken yesterday, May 10, 2012 at the meeting of the National Economic Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The council, chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo includes the 36 state governors, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, ministers of Finance, National Planning and Justice.
Liyel Imoke, Governor of Cross Rivers state while briefing state house correspondents after the meeting said the governors decided to back the planned tariff increase after listening to a presentation by the chairman of NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi. He said the joy in the new tariff plan was that there would be marginal or no increase in tariff for the poor who consume little quantity of power.

SENATE SLASHES PRICE OF NEW NUMBER PLATE

The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs has recommended the reduction of the price of the new standard motor vehicle number plates from N15,000 to N8,400 and driver’s license from N6,000 to N4,000.The committee also directed that the Federal Road Safety Commission should forthwith lift the ban on the issuance of the new number plates and licenses which were hitherto suspended. The recommendations were contained in the committee’s report following an investigation into the issue of new number plates and the public outcry against it.The committee also ordered that the cost of motor cycle number plates put at N3,000 should be immediately reverted to the old price of N1,500, implying that the licenses should also remain at N75.It also ordered the cessation of the e-coding scheme and the collection of N2,000 fee per vehicle by the FCT VIO, and urged it to collaborate with and integrate with the FRSC.The report recommended that, “The FRSC should call for the replacement of driver’s licenses only at the point of renewal at the expiration to avoid double payment. The committee also noted that the August 2012 deadline for the change was no longer realistic, citing the exorbitant cost and the time lapse during the National Assembly’s intervention. It further recommended that the Police should cease its Biometric Central Motor Registry which would also attract N3,500 from vehicle owners, saying that it would amount to duplication and additional burden on Nigerians.“The Police Force should synergise their idea of biometric data collection and collaborate with FRSC which already has an existing data base. The Police should forthwith suspend the introduction of the BCMR and the N3,500 that goes with it,” the committee said.Other details of the recommendation showed that articulated vehicles will now pay N11, 200, instead of the N20,000 stipulated by the FRSC; while privileged numbers and fancy or personalised numbers were left as recommended by the FRSC…CKN
